What causes Gyno?

Gynecomastia is most ordinarily caused by an imbalance between the hormones estrogen and testosterone. Estrogen controls female traits, including breast growth. Testosterone controls male traits, like muscle mass and hair. Although each of those hormones produces the standard traits seen in males and females, males produce a little amount of estrogen and females produce a little amount of testosterone. Male estrogen levels that are too high or are out of balance with testosterone levels cause gynecomastia.

Gynecomastia occurs naturally at different times in a very male’s life. These phases are:

After birth. Newborn boys are still under the results of the estrogen they received from their mothers while developing within the womb. quite half of the newborn males are born with enlarged breasts. The gynecomastia goes away within two to 3 weeks after birth.
At puberty. Hormone levels are changing during puberty (usually 12 to 14 years of age). Breast enlargement usually goes away six months to 2 years after the beginning of puberty.
At mid-life and beyond. Breast enlargement often peaks in men between the ages of 50 & 80. About one in four men during this age range have breast enlargement.
There are many other conditions that may cause gynecomastia. These include:

  • Obesity
  • Lack of proper nutrition
  • Tumors within the testicles or adrenal glands
  • Liver disease
  • Hyperthyroidism
  • Hypoandrogenism
  • Hypogonadism
  • Kidney failure

Certain drugs can even cause Gynecomastia, including:

  • Anabolic steroids for improved athletic performance
  • Estrogens
  • Finasteride (Proscar®, Propecia®) for enlarged prostate
  • Spironolactone (Aldactone®), digoxin (Lanoxin®), amiodarone (Cordarone®), and calcium channel blockers
  • Cimetidine (Tagamet®) and proton pump inhibitors for heartburn
  • Diazepam (Valium®) for anxiety
  • Ketoconazole (Nizoral®) for fungal infections
  • Metronidazole (Flagyl®) for bacterial infections
  • Human chorionic gonadotropin for fertility problems
  • Amphetamines, marijuana, heroin, methadone (“street” drugs), and alcohol

Gyno vs Fat

gynecomastia vs chest fat

The main difference between Gynecomastia and Pseudogynecomastia (chest fat) is that the mass that’s causing the swelling. By considering the subsequent differences you’ll be able to work out whether you have got gynecomastia or simply chest fat.

Gynecomastia is:

● thanks to excess breast tissue/glandular tissue growth.

● The underlying matter is that the tissue that’s firm, irregular, and sometimes even painful to the touch.

● Hard lump under the nipple but may extend outside the borders of the areola depends on what quantity fat there’s.

● Gynecomastia can only be reduced surgically.

● Visibility depends on the grade. it should be difficult to differentiate if it’s a mixed gland and fat causing the swelling.

Chest Fat (Pseudogynecomastia) is:

● The increased chest mass is because of the deposition of fat within the area surrounding the nipples.

● The underlying matter is accumulated fat within the chest area which is soft and always painless.

● A soft lump under the whole breast. It primarily occurs in overweight or obese people.

● Pseudogynecomastia if not severe could also be reduced by diet and exercise.

Gynecomastia Treatment

Usually, no treatment is required. Most cases of gynecomastia lessen with time. However, if a medical condition is causing gynecomastia, medications may have to incline. If a drug is that the cause, your doctor may tell you to prevent taking it or may prescribe a special medication. Your doctor may suggest seeing an endocrinologist (a doctor who makes a specialty of treating hormone-related problems). Surgery is sometimes not recommended unless the gynecomastia is causing severe pain and tenderness or embarrassment.

Surgery Cost in India

In India the cost ranges from Rs 50,000 to Rs 1,00,000 depending on the amount of fat to be removed, sculpting needed, the technology used, and other miscellaneous expenses.
